Mark Hennick (Painting)

“My work is the evolution of building up layers of media substrate and removing surface topography over time. The piece is finished when both addition and subtraction of paint from the artwork form a harmonious blend of texture and color.”

Kansas City based artist and graphic designer, Mark Hennick enjoys the process of specifying color, building composition and observing the outcome. Through his abstract works, Hennick explores using nontraditional tools and new techniques for painting. His meditation and yoga praxis helps to inspire the images he creates.

Hennick has exhibited throughout the Kansas City area and shows his artworks in many art fairs and galleries. He lives in the Kansas City River Market and practices at the Bunker Center for the Arts in the East Crossroads. If you are drawn to colorful abstract imagery, Hennick’s works are a must-see.

“The objective is to create art that has dynamic shape and form with colors constantly changing. In so doing they appear multifarious with each viewing.”

Below is a sample image from the Vinyasa Series, which will be included in the ART CARE PACKAGE. The work measures 10 x 10 inches and comes framed.

David Pugh (Photography)

David has been a photographer in Kansas City for more than 10 years. After having photographed a magnolia tree during his junior year of high school with a little point and shoot, taking pictures has been a way for him to create and inspire. He has made it his mission to photograph beauty in the genuine expressions that we all have. His style is a mixture of play with color and emotion, whether it’s incorporating the environment in his portraits or manipulating light for his subjects in a studio setting. His aim, when photographing, is to make sure the final result has the likeness of who the person is.

The same applies to his landscape and still-life works. Patterns, color, and a carefully chosen camera angle evoke emotions and draw the viewer deep into David’s photographic masterpieces while offering a glimpse into the artist’s mind.

“My artwork expresses the quiet and contemplative side of my persona. With both subject matter I utilize light and color to bring full effect of the mood and expression whether in a landscape, still life or face.”

Below is the image from his Pattern Series, which will be included in the ART CARE PACKAGE as a limited edition of 15. The work is signed, numbered and dated on the back. It is printed on premier archival Museo Silver Rag paper with archival Epson Inks. The work is matted in a 7.75″ x 9.75″ frame.

Rachel Hubbard Kline (Ceramics)

Rachel Hubbard Kline’s work explores the wistfulness of personal connections to historical domestic objects and material culture. Kline seeks symbiosis in the relationship of surfaces to forms and addresses the hierarchy of importance between the form itself and the image or decoration. Objects both functional and decorative, factor into the banality and routineness of daily life. As the current political and social climate continues to shift, She seeks to compare past and present means of the production of goods and labor. Surface design inspired by vintage textile prints from family quilts and other historical motifs appear in Kline’s work. The vessel acts as a stand in for the body and a metaphor for preservation. Kline’s series of jars and jugs are intended to preserve memories of family members and places by using specific colors, patterns and objects she remembers from childhood to the present.

With a background in fashion and art history, she explores relationships of fine art and craft in the disciplines of drawing, painting, ceramics, and fiber. Hubbard draws on her Midwestern roots and ties to rural farm life to reflect on past ways of life based on collections and artifacts.

Hubbard Kline has been the recipient of educator residencies at the Kansas City Art Institute, a participant in the Connecting Collections teacher institute in New York, and Educator Conferences and AP Teacher Training at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Park University in 2010, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 2007, and attended Parsons School of Design. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Below is a sample image from her SMALL TILE Series, which was specially created for the ART CARE PACKAGE.

Isaac Lee (Digital Print Making | Mixed Media)

Born in Scotland, Korean in ethnicity, Isaac Lee has lived in countries ranging from Afghanistan to Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, and the United States. Thus, he is considered a third culture kid who finds difficulty in giving a simple answer to the question “where is home.” His digital prints works and ceramic sculptures explore forms of modern-day nomads who struggle to find permanence and stability despite their migratory childhood experiences.

My drawn figures and figurative sculptures are visually surreal, stylized, and abstracted. Their bodies are simplified to become cylinders or tall domes with various attachments. I aim to create static and monumental postures that create a contained and isolated atmosphere. From these elements the simplified bodies mimic architectural forms, like unorthodox dwellings or houses. An opening is created for each sculpture to introduce the hollow space within that refers to an emptied space of a shell, a remnant of what was there. The untreated surface of the exposed inner space connects my personal experience to my temporal relation of place. The permanent yet fragile nature of clay contrasts with the temporal aspects of my migratory experience, speaking upon my inevitable feelings of isolation and nostalgia, yet having a strong desire for independence from my lack of anchors. This current exploration offers a definition of home; home is my body, a vessel that contains my memories of place and connection.”

Below is the image from his NOMAD Series titled “CLOUDS OF ISOLATION”, which was specially created for the ART CARE PACKAGE and is a reflection of the feelings many of us are currently experiencing. Lee has hand-drawn a segment on each piece, which makes all works unique within the edition of 15. The work is signed, numbered, and dated. It is printed on premier archival Museo Silver Rag paper with archival Epson Inks. The work is matted in a 9.75″ x 7.75″ frame.

LAURA NUGENT (Painting)

“When asked to characterize my paintings, I describe the non-representational works as colliding blocks of color made orderly over time.
Painting is my vocation and lifelong pursuit. I began my formal training as a teen, graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (now MICA) with a BFA in painting, and have lived and worked as an artist all over the United States. I make my studio these days in Kansas City and travel widely to exhibit my work.”

KATHERINE BELLO (Painting)

“As an Abstract painter, I want to push the boundaries. Expand what I think I know while trusting my inner voice. I’m drawn to light, color, line and form to awaken the senses and capture the imagination – I absolutely love when someone looks at my work and makes inquiring expressions, – a smile or a raised eyebrow – making an interpretation for themselves. My aim is to capture a sense of place, a moment of time, or a feeling – to evoke a sense of wonder….”

Subscribers have received a piece from Katherine’s small abstract series. Please keep in mind that this is a representative image. All 15 available pieces only shared the same size but varied slightly in color, pattern, brush, and line work. Each piece is unique and has a retail value of $100.
